Meta-Networking Research Center of UEC Hosts Sakura Science Exchange Program “Meta-Networking Technology Training through ICT International Project”- an ICT International PBL Workshop, Fostering International Collaboration and Academic Exchange

From November 28th to December 2nd, 2023, the University of Electro-Communications (UEC) successfully organized an international Project-Based Learning (PBL) workshop as part of the Sakura Science Exchange Program (https://ssp.jst.go.jp/en/). Faculty and students from the University of Electro-Communications, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT), and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) jointly participated in a week-long exchange. Consistent with the goals of the Sakura Science Exchange Program, this workshop fostered ongoing collaboration and interaction among the three institutions in the fields of science, technology, and education, all striving towards nurturing talented individuals poised to make contributions to technological innovation.

This event provided a transcultural academic platform through Project-Based Learning (PBL). Participants were divided into three groups—Wireless Network, Digital Signal Processing, and Robotics. Over a period of four days, they delved into research-oriented projects and practical tasks, addressing challenges within their respective disciplines. Enhancing students’ global perspectives and problem-solving skills, the workshop also cultivated their abilities to collaborate and communicate within an international setting.

During the culminating session of the workshop, each team presented demonstrations of their research and development outcomes, engaging in comprehensive discussions. These presentations showcased the students’ outstanding performance within a short span, reflecting their unique insights into technological fields and laying a solid foundation for future academic research and innovation.

In addition to the PBL, diverse activities including study tour were arranged. The faculty and students from these three institutions explored the Japan Future Technology Museum, gaining insights into Japan’s latest technological advancements while also experienced the unique charm of Japanese culture by visiting Asakusa Temple. While broadening their academic horizons, these activities brought a cultural element to international academic exchanges.

The successful hosting of this transnational academic workshop has strengthened collaboration among the three institutions and provided students with a platform to facilitate academic exchange and cultural integration. It is believed that through such international exchange activities, students will gain deeper insights and apply their acquired knowledge, contributing their efforts towards future technological innovation and development.
